"Awake O Dead, for there can be no rest for ye beneath the earth. Let the splintered bones burrow from the grave pall. Let cold fingers grip time-worn blades, and unseeing eyes survey the fields of slaughter. For your time has come once more. And the dead shall walk."
- Motto of the Sylvania Press

Hail brothers and sisters, welcome to The Old Realms!

The Old Realms is a Mount and Blade: Bannerlord modification set in the age of Karl Franz’s ascension to the throne.

The Setting:

We aim to capture the grim dark nature of the Warhammer Fantasy world with the intention of delivering the best possible experience for the player. The Old World will have the player meeting and fighting (Or WAAAAGHING!!) alongside legendary characters such as Karl Franz and Grimgor Ironhide, as well as exploring well known locations such as Karaz-A-Karak and Castle Drakenhof.

The Inner-Circle:

What started off as a small team with immense passion for both Mount and Blade and Warhammer Fantasy has quickly become an ever-growing project filled with a mixture of dedicated people.

What we plan to release:

The overhaul will be released in different stages. The first stage will include the Empire of Man, the Vampire Counts. From this point forward we look to expand upon the Old World itself and include as many of the factions and significant locations as we can with time.

The overall end goal is to recreate the entirety of the Old World within Bannerlord, ensuring all factions and locations are lore accurate and immersive while maintaining the sandbox elements that make Mount and Blade so enjoyable.

You can read up on our planned features over on the Talewords Forum.

The Empire Wants You!

Expanding and looking for help, you can play your part too!
If you would like to see if there is a role that suits you, head over to our discord and check the applications channel.

Discord:

Of course, you can also join just to follow our progress and be a part of the community. All are welcome to settle Grudges! The discord has now grown to a lovely community in which we talk about upcoming things in the mod. There are also dedicated channels in case you have any questions about installation, gameplay, or if you're having issues. We always strive to help you out where needed!

We are excited to make an announcement! As we teased before we are coming close to our next major update and we are now comfortable enough to give you an idea of when it’s going to be, the update will feature the content that we have shown off in the last few blog posts and more!

Without further ado, it will hit Steam and ModDB around the last week of August, as ever we will try our best to ensure that the experience is as bug-free as possible but do not hesitate to provide feedback if anything goes awry! We look forward to everyone getting their hands on our new mechanics!

With the mysterious powers of the Lady, the Damsels will join the fray and are ready to serve alongside Bretonnia to fight back against Mousillon! Their potent spellcasting is at the hands of both the Ai and players.

The pilgrims, another part of our religious system, will also be found across Bretonnia ready and dedicated to fight until their last.

Environment

As for the Environment team, we have a big chunk of content to show off, so keep a hold of your well-oiled moustaches and take a look below, both the Empire and Bretonnia will feature a range of cities, castles and villages that are partly reworked vanílla maps, and partly custom made for our mod!

Prophetess & Warrior priests classes

Career Showcase: Warrior priest of Sigmar and Damsel of the Lady

We are very aware that the warrior priest needs more love and we’ve started that process by introducing a ‘priest’ career that will work with, or towards, having priestly powers. The current healing ability the Warrior Priest has will be replaced with 4 different battle prayers, as well as it’s own unique progression tree tied to our new Career system.

Prayers are unlocked differently to magic, it requires you to increase your ‘faith’ skill until you are considered worthy of the abilities. If you start the game or are following a ‘priest’ career (which for now includes the Damsel & Warrior Priest) then you will automatically unlock them.

Also unlike magic, prayers don’t require a resource, like winds of magic, to function. Instead, they have a cooldown to keep them balanced as they can be quite powerful.

The Damsel of the Lady will give you the opportunity to become one of the strongest magic users and priests at the same time, which is ideal for those who want more magic to play with. While the Damsel of the Lady does not have a Career ability, she will instead be able to learn a total of 3 schools of magic; and has options to buff herself and her troops in combat.

RPG text adventure events

We also wanted to add a little more flavour to the overworld part of Bannerlord, we thought one of the best ways to do this was through text adventures! We wanted to introduce this so that as you travel events can happen, both randomly and sometimes triggered by something.

When these events pop up, they will require you to interact and make decisions to reach a variety of outcomes. This can be affected by character skills or traits, such as being a vampire, and a range of options in an interactive dialogue will become available, it could result in treasure, unique weapons or something more dangerous!

Been having a lot of fun with it as a warrior priest, can't wait for you all to add more of the map and factions. Now for some feedback.

The Empire start is whack. There are WAY too many bandit spawns in the Empire lands, it's absurd. It's especially problematic in the early game, you can barely do anything without getting jumped by multiple bandit groups. It honestly feels bugged with how bad it is.

I guess it gives you something to do when you're higher level, which is my next point of feedback. This is already an issue in vanilla Bannerlord, where there's not a whole lot to do once you get to higher levels. It's worse in this mod, though, because kingdoms seem to never want to declare war on each other. It's called Warhammer not Peacehammer! Jokes aside, I had to restart my first game after getting to Tier 3 because my faction (Wissenland) refused to declare war on anyone and there was literally nothing to do but hunt bandits. In my second game I was able to join Reikland when they were already at war, but it ended quickly after that. Fortunately they did go to war with Talabecland for a little bit allowing me to experience that part of the game (and it was fun!) but after the resolution of that conflict Reikland has not been at war for multiple hours and I gave up because there was nothing to do. I played the mod to try and experience a war with the vampires, but in my 15-20 hours with this mod I have yet to see them at war with anyone.

TLDR: decrease bandit spawns in Empire lands, increase the frequency of wars. Fixing those two things would make the mod as it is now more enjoyable. Overall fantastic job with the mod, though. Can't wait to see where it goes.

thank you for your response, we are aware that the empire is way too crowded at this point. Also wars seem to work against our will. I would recommend for the time being, to gain a bit of influence and try to force your kingdom to war with that. In future we will tackle these problems. :)

New player playing the Knights and Saints version here. Feels great, I'm glad I waited though, as every bit added to it makes the new player experience that much more fresh. Besides a couple of minor crashes out of ~30-hour campaign, I only can anticipate how much more amazing this mod is & will become. Things I wouldn't mind seeing fixed/balanced/added, which might help out the new player experience even more:

-More up-to-date online videos on how players can experience this mod. It was a super easy download through Steam for me, and players should be made aware.

-Consolidated companions into one named Traveling Wanderer, and a quest for siblings so we can form our own personalized companions stat-wise. I want to use the Grail Knights(bravo to their detail), but never can because I'd be left without a medic/scout/quartermaster. The only customizable troops I found were vampires.

-More ways to earn better horses, and more horses in general, I've been stuck on the palmation for a majority of the campaign.

-Beward reward items from tournaments, they're very tough, especially when all the endgame lords/wanderers join in. Getting an 11-armor hat at level 32 was well, I would've preferred butter even if the hat was rather spiffy.

-A couple of ways of earning bonus attribute points would greatly help the players out considering there are new skill trees, and the tedious bannerlord EXP ceilings come quick. Wizard's books were great but did little for me mid to endgame.

-Some elven troops with new bows & bow skill trees, and dwarfs with new hammars & smithing skill trees would be god tier. Those plus Skaven and goblin troops would really make the content feel more fulfilling and fantasy to me.

-Certain troop trees fall flat, especially with gearing capabilities. Almost to a point where certain troops are unusable and players are forced to spam noble troops. Flat to a degree where basic bandits will crush them.

-Quests are feeling rather sparse and sporadic, almost to a point where I miss some of the spammable caravan quests, etc. that were in base-game. Or the old saving villages from bandits in Warband. Loading screen from village-> map can be tedious.

-Gear starts disappearing from towns in the later game, especially the good gear, and the wandering traders really don't help with that too much. Making it difficult to deck out companions.

-Some different color shadings on the gear that is in the mod would be great, I certainly wouldn't mind it. It could even have slightly different stat variations like in Warband.

Overall, the mod & the ongoing template is amazing I can't wait to see what's added next. The kind of combat, fantasy, RPG aspects normal bannerlord should've had. Thank you so much for giving me something to focus my mind on during the grim & stressful past couple of months I've had.

press alt, there's about a 30 second cooldown at the start of battle before you can activate it until you reach the second level of the career system

sorry to post this but couldn't find another contact... seems to be a repeatable bug. fighting a tourny in Soude and seems to be a repeatable crash when causing damage (latest version of everything, not sure if it's Soude specific as the bug has happened a few times in Bratonnian tournaments but isnt 100% repeatable). can send through a dump if you have a contact.

I always get ctd whenever an enemy general dies in my mercenary playthrough. I guess it's kinda related to the bounty perk where u get 500 gold for each general slain
